Lessons-

I offer a wide variety of learning opportunities. Whether you're starting out or if you're an accomplished angler and need to hone your skills to a higher level I can help. I have 50 plus years of fishing and casting experience to offer and I'm happy to share them. Below is a list of the " standard " lesson offerings, but if your interested in something else please, send me a note or give me a call and we'll customize the lesson to suite your needs.

First Cast

 You saw " A River Runs Through It ", you were captivated, now you want to know how to do it. This is the starting point. In this lesson, we spend some time getting the basics of the classic dry fly cast. You'll learn basic technique and methodologies. Concepts like loop formation, tempo, casting plane and line speed will become very familiar to you. Usually done in a large open park setting you will have plenty of space to develop a working " fishable" cast. Plan on spending about an hour and a half minimum and no need to have a fly rod as I can provide them for your lesson. 

Price: $ 100 for 1 or 2 folks, $ 50 per additional student.

Tight Loops - Building from the First Cast fundamentals this class takes casting to the next level. Covering topics like mid-air mending, directional cast, curved casting, parachute casting, and anything else you want to improve, this is your option. 

$ 100 for one or two people.$50 for each additional angler

Fly Fishing 101 (Intro to fly fishing)

A comprehensive overview of the application of fly casting 101 taken to the river. Learn fundamentals of fish behavior, entomology (fish food), and fishing methodology. Take this course and you'll learn enough to go anywhere and have reasonable expectations of catching fish. 

$425 for one or two people

Time to Fish!-
In this class we take what we've learned from either the First Cast or the Intro to Fly Fishing Class and add the practicum of actually trying to catch fish utilizing as many of the various techniques as are practical. The main focus will be the rigging of lines and flies, the reading of water, the act of fighting fish, the appropriate handling of caught fish, and, of course, matching that hatch. We might also happen to discuss the right kind of IPA to take along on your adventure. Just shy of an actual guide trip, we will emphasize the methods and techniques so that you are ready to fish wherever your passion takes you. 
Price: $425 for one or Two Anglers $ 100 for each additional angler. Limit 4. Larger groups can be accommodated on a customized pricing schedule.

Spey Casting and Spey Fishing

Spey Casting -

Learn the basics of two handed spey casting. It's simple and will expand your casting repertoire dramatically. You will learn the fundamentals of  the single spey, double spey, snap t and snake roll. All you need to get started with two handed casting. 

Price: $100 for one or two anglers, $50 for each additional student

Spey Fishing Basics. -

Drawing from the fundamentals of Spey Casting class, you'll learn the actual application and techniques necessary to stoke your spey fishing passion.Learn the difference between summer run and winter run fish, Classic vs. Scandinavian, Skagit style vs. skating,  the equipment and techniques necessary to fish for them. Since this is a practical on the water course, we will need to float on the lower Deschutes river and all applicable permits will be needed. 

Price $ 45o for one or two people
