May You LIve In Interesting Times.

Ironically enough this phrase was believed to have originally been a curse. Well, we are indeed living in interesting times and prophetically enough they are a bit cursed right now. The Covid-19 virus strain has shown us our frailty and our resistance. Our day to day lives have been heavily influenced by the possibility becoming infected. Depending on your perspective and now a days largely which news source you prefer this possibility is either a major issue or a minor inconvenience. Regardless, we are obliged to pay attention to it.

This obligation has had a profound impact on how we, fly fishing guides, conduct our business. In addition to the widely known protocols of safe distancing, face mask wearing, and hand sanitizing the nature of our activities necessitates even greater precautionary measures. To that end I encourage you to read the attached information published by the Oregon State Marine Board. It outlines best practices for outfitters and guides.

Now that “things” are headed on a vector back to normalcy I am hoping that I can spend some time on the water with you doing what we love to do. Chasing trout. Be assured that I will do my best to follow the protocols outlined in the OSMB guidelines. But ( here is the obligatory disclaimer ) in reality it only takes one misstep, one inadvertent oversight and in theory at least, the possibility for transmission of the virus exists.

So, what I am asking you to do is to agree that we will follow these protocols together and that we will not allow them to become so onerous that they hamper our ability to have fun and enjoy the surroundings, wherever we may be.. But we do live in “ interesting times”  and we must do what is necessary to go about the business of having fun.

On that note and with a virtual hand shake and fist bump, lets hit the water and catch some fish and have some fun. I look forward to our next adventure.
